So I have my first exam/midterm this afternoon. WAH. I am seriously so sick of studying for it... astronomy. Solar system. MATH. People. Stars. WHY DOES IT MATTER. sejresoiseifj. I don't know. It's a class and it's supposed to matter... I can't think this analytically about science!!!
Anyway.
Yesterday President Obama visited campus. Basically I stood there for literally four hours to hear him speak. Don't get me wrong, it was awesome. Just a lot of standing.
I just have a couple comments... ha
Whether or not you're a fan of Obama, he's the president of our country right now. Missing an opportunity to hear him speak in person is kind of silly, if you ask me. Yes, there were obnoxious people who basically cried when he walked onto the platform, you could barely see a thing, your feet hurt and you were constantly touching someone next to you. That being said, this was something I can tell my kids one day (cliche, I know), and even though the pictures I took were pretty bad, I got to hear what he said in a way that wasn't tainted by an article or a sound bite.
Another thing.
There's a difference between what someone says and what someone does. The entire time, Obama criticized Mitt Romney for "lying" at the debate on Wednesday. Yes, I realize this was a grassroots event and that's what you're supposed to do - criticize the opponent. It just worries me that some people, especially young and naive college students, are so quick to believe anything that comes out of a politician's mouth.
They're POLITICIANS. Their goal is to pretty much stretch the truth in order to make people happy and get votes. So you can stop clapping at every two words he says. Yikes.
This is a useful site that I use to judge BOTH sides:
www.politifact.com
I'm busy a lot, and it's been really hard for me to keep up with political happenings/world events. I'm not the best resource, and often my comments are inherently biased based on my political stance. I just wish people would take into consideration the truth sometimes, and not just block out anything that contradicts what they want to hear.
College is supposed to be about accepting ALL opinions, right?
Anyway. Just some thoughts.
I'll go back to studying now...
